You may or may not know this, but I work in customer service. I love customer service jobs (believe it or not). I actively seek them out because I know God wants me to serve people and I get enjoyment from providing service to others. However, working in customer service can be draining! It can be especially draining when you are an introvert like me.
On a daily basis, my life fluctuates between work and rest. I tried my hardest to find a balance that worked. 8 hours of work, then 2 hours of Netflix (Okay, sometimes a little more than 2 hours. Don’t judge lol). For a while, this worked for me. Then it was like energy began to seep out of me little by little until I was completely drained. No amount of rest seemed to fill me up.
It took a while, but I realized that I didn’t have a balance problem. I had a source problem. I spent time with God, but this time was not focused. I grew complacent in my quiet times, doing it by route. When my perspective shifted to seeing Jesus as my source, my quiet times became productive. I went into to quiet time with a few goals and priorities.
First, I want to praise God. I want to praise God because He’s good and faithful, and thus He deserves my praise.
“Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never forget the good things He does for me.” Psalm 103:2 NLT
Second, I want to invite God. I want to lay down control over my life and circumstances and invite God into them.
“I know, Lord, that our lives are not our own. We are not able to plan our own course.” Jeremiah 10:23 NLT
Third, I want to receive from God. I want God to fill me with His energy, His joy, and His peace.
“My health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak, but God remains the strength of my heart; He is mine forever.” Psalm 73:26 NLT
So, if you’ve been feeling drained lately, fill up on God. He is your source and your supply.
